It was a humid morning because I had one leg cut into my mountain bike while there must be thirty of us lined up to the starting line of the 15-mile mountain bike racing. As I stood there I glanced at the other competitors, some of whom had what looked like a ball of fire in their eyes while others have been torn leg muscle. They all sat on their bikes, some wizards bike carbon fiber, hardtail, and full suspension bikes and even some of the 29ers. Here I am with only one year of experience riding in a single lane track with a full suspension mountain bike track me when I tried to keep myself pumped up for what could potentially be a very tiring race.
Before the sound of gunfire was heard, I kept my hands relaxed grip the handlebars, just let go to make sure gloves are tight, properly adjusted my helmet and I took a few sips from Camelbak hydration system that is tied to me.
After the gun away and heard across the mountain bike park, we were all in the dash for leaving the starting line when clipping and jockeying for position like a herd of wild animals as we walked out of the open field and become a single lane road.
Because I keep changing gear, have a look at the rider in front of me and think about what I will face during the race, I had a thought in the back of my mind.
